Trader Joe's Accelerates Texas Expansion With New Locations Planned for Fort Worth and Plano

Trader Joe's is continuing its steady retail expansion across the Lone Star State, moving forward with plans to establish two new grocery storefronts in North Texas. The California-based specialty grocer has initiated development preparations for future outposts located in Fort Worth and Plano, marking the latest phase in the company's sustained efforts to broaden its presence in growing Texas markets.

The planned additions will extend the grocer's distinctive neighborhood retail format into key commercial corridors within the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. According to public records and corporate confirmations, the new Fort Worth establishment will be situated at 9052 North City Drive, while the incoming Plano location is set to occupy commercial space at 5900 Preston Road.

Corporate leadership at Trader Joe's officially confirmed the ongoing development efforts, describing them as part of a broader corporate initiative to reach new communities. Nakia Rohde, public relations manager for Trader Joe's, verified that the company is actively pursuing new opportunities across the country, noting that expanding into Fort Worth and Plano represents an important step in that nationwide mission.

Rohde explained that the organization routinely investigates hundreds of neighborhood markets across the United States with the goal of opening an increasing number of stores annually. While acknowledging the company's formal plans for both the Plano and Fort Worth sites, Rohde indicated that corporate leadership is committed to identifying neighborhood locations that align with the brand's customer-focused retail model.

Although the company has confirmed its intent to establish the two North Texas sites, precise scheduling details have not yet been finalized. Rohde emphasized that definitive opening dates and official development timelines are not yet firmly in place, as commercial buildouts typically require multiple stages of planning, permitting, and construction management.

The formal progression of both projects was detailed in recent regulatory submissions filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Registration. An authorized agent acting on behalf of Trader Joe's submitted the required project permits, outlining the architectural scope, financial investment, and projected completion targets for both North Texas properties.

Based on the official state filings, the upcoming Fort Worth grocery store is designed to span approximately 12,500 square feet of commercial floor space. The construction and interior renovation budget for the North City Drive property carries an estimated expenditure of $900,000, representing a significant capital commitment toward transforming the retail space.

State documentation currently lists a tentative completion date of June 1, 2027, for the Fort Worth project. However, the Texas Department of Licensing and Registration explicitly notes that details recorded in these preliminary project filings remain subject to revision, depending on supply chain timelines, local building approvals, and on-site construction schedules.

The prospective Plano site mirrors the Fort Worth development in both physical size and financial scope. Department records indicate that the Preston Road store will also encompass roughly 12,500 square feet of retail space and operate under an identical estimated construction budget of $900,000, with its tentative completion date also targeted for June 1, 2027.

Both the Plano and Fort Worth projects will utilize the architectural services of BMF + Associates, a California-based design and planning firm. The architecture firm is tasked with overseeing the commercial specifications and layout configurations necessary to adapt both retail spaces to the grocer's standardized requirements.

The announcement of the Fort Worth and Plano storefronts arrives shortly after another major development initiative in the Dallas-Fort Worth region. Last month, state filings revealed that Trader Joe's had initiated plans to construct a 12,500-square-foot store in the suburb of Wylie, a project that is also being designed and managed by BMF + Associates.

Currently, Trader Joe's operates 26 store locations across Texas. The addition of the newly filed Fort Worth and Plano properties, combined with other recently revealed pipeline developments, will significantly increase the grocer's statewide footprint and provide broader consumer access to its proprietary brand offerings.

The company's recent expansion drive in Texas extends well beyond the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. Over recent months, the specialty food retailer has also targeted the Greater Houston area for expansion, filing plans to establish new stores in both the Bellaire and Spring communities.

Across these various Texas developments—including the Houston-area sites and the upcoming Dallas-Fort Worth locations—the grocer has maintained a consistent footprint of approximately 12,500 square feet. This uniform scale reflects the retailer's traditional strategy of operating compact, easily navigable storefronts rather than massive big-box supermarkets.

As Trader Joe's advances through the state permitting and construction stages, shoppers across North Texas will be watching the projects closely. While final opening schedules remain subject to change, the confirmed filings demonstrate that the California grocer remains firmly invested in deepening its long-term footprint throughout Texas.
