Port St. Lucie Man Facing Multiple Felonies After Fatal Overdose Investigation Uncovers Drugs and Weapons

Port St. Lucie police have taken a 43-year-old local resident into custody on a slate of serious felony offenses following an extensive investigation into a fatal narcotics overdose discovered earlier this month, according to newly released departmental records. Danilo Jaramillo was formally booked into jail following a series of investigative steps that connected him directly to a deceased individual found inside an area apartment.

The investigation initially began on September 13 when emergency responders and law enforcement officers were dispatched to a residence situated in the 700 block of Southeast Collins Lane, located just east of Florida’s Turnpike near Becker Road. Upon arriving at the scene, authorities discovered the lifeless body of a man later identified by police as Miqueias Oliverira Silva.

A detailed examination of the immediate surroundings inside the apartment quickly pointed toward a fatal substance-induced event. According to official arrest affidavits, investigating officers located a syringe stained with blood lying in close proximity to Silva's body. Furthermore, detectives documented and recovered a plastic bag containing suspected cocaine near the deceased, prompting an immediate narcotics-focused death investigation.

Crucial preliminary information was provided by an observant neighbor who initially contacted emergency services via 911 after growing concerned for Silva's well-being. The neighbor informed responding investigators that Silva had last been observed stepping out of a black sport utility vehicle before walking into his apartment, giving detectives a critical lead regarding the victim's final movements and potential visitors.

Seeking to reconstruct the victim's final hours, investigators secured and performed an analysis of Silva’s cellular phone. Digital forensic examination of the device uncovered an extensive trail of text messages strongly indicating active narcotics transactions between the deceased and Jaramillo. According to police records, communication records showed that the illicit exchanges between the two individuals had commenced as early as August.

Armed with this digital evidence, Port St. Lucie detectives devised an undercover operation to apprehend the suspected supplier. Utilizing Silva’s recovered mobile phone, law enforcement personnel posed as the victim to initiate communication and negotiate a new drug transaction with Jaramillo, arranging for a delivery to take place at the same residential apartment complex on Southeast Collins Lane.

The coordinated operation culminated when Jaramillo arrived at the designated location driving a black Kia sport utility vehicle that matched the description gathered during the initial neighborhood canvass. Police quickly moved in to detain Jaramillo as he entered the apartment property, bringing the planned transaction to an abrupt halt before any further distribution could occur.

A subsequent search of Jaramillo’s vehicle yielded significant evidence corroborating the suspected illicit activity. Inside the Kia, officers discovered an undisclosed sum of cash along with a quantity of fentanyl. The synthetic opioid has been recognized by law enforcement and public health officials as an exceptionally lethal substance responsible for a staggering number of fatal overdoses across Florida and the rest of the nation.

Following Jaramillo's initial roadside detention, the scope of the criminal inquiry rapidly broadened to his personal residence situated in the 900 block of Southwest Longfellow Road in Port St. Lucie. Detectives secured authorization to conduct a comprehensive search of the premises to uncover further evidence related to the suspected distribution enterprise.

The residential search uncovered substantial quantities of illicit contraband and significant financial assets. Law enforcement officers searching the Longfellow Road home seized a total of $17,715 in United States currency, an additional cache of cocaine, and three separate firearms, substantially elevating the severity of the legal consequences facing the suspect.

During the execution of the search warrant, investigators encountered Jaramillo’s wife and her children, who exited the residence as officers knocked on the door. When questioned by detectives, the wife maintained that she was completely unaware of her husband's ongoing involvement in the illicit narcotics trade, telling officers that she had not seen him in possession of illegal drugs for roughly eight months.

For his part, Jaramillo spoke with officers regarding the discoveries made on his property and explicitly assumed sole responsibility for the contraband. According to police affidavits, the suspect declared that any illegal items found within the Longfellow Road residence belonged entirely to him, while concurrently exercising his constitutional right to speak with legal counsel for advice.

As a result of the multi-day probe, Jaramillo now faces numerous severe criminal charges in St. Lucie County. Court documents outline at least five felony drug-related counts alongside three felony charges of possession of a weapon or ammunition by a convicted felon, reflecting his prior criminal history. Additionally, authorities charged him with a single misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

The case highlights the aggressive tactics employed by local law enforcement agencies to trace the supply chain of illicit substances directly linked to fatal overdose incidents. Jaramillo remains incarcerated as prosecutors review the investigative findings, with the case moving forward through the Florida criminal court system.
