Police Launch Death Investigation After Man's Body Is Discarded in Southwest Houston Apartment Parking Lot

Homicide investigators with the Houston Police Department are actively working to untangle the circumstances surrounding the death of a man whose body was abandoned in the parking lot of a southwest Houston apartment complex over the weekend. Detectives were called to the scene following disturbing reports that a vehicle had entered the residential property, dumped a person onto the pavement, and quickly sped away from the area.

According to authorities, emergency dispatchers received a 911 call at approximately 2:45 p.m. on Saturday directing officers to an apartment community situated along the 5700 block of Rampart Street. The caller alerted law enforcement after a neighbor reportedly witnessed an individual being discarded directly onto the parking lot ground in broad daylight.

Emergency medical personnel arrived swiftly at the Rampart Street location and initiated life-saving measures in an attempt to revive the man. Despite these immediate resuscitation efforts, first responders were unable to save him, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

While official identification from municipal authorities remains pending, family members who gathered at the apartment complex identified the deceased man as Santos Macario Chay Tamayac. Relatives were left devastated and searching for explanations as crime scene tape cordoned off the parking area where his body lay.

The victim’s brother-in-law, Diego Ramos, spoke at the scene in Spanish, expressing the family's complete shock and bewilderment regarding how Chay Tamayac ended up at the southwest Houston complex. Ramos explained that Chay Tamayac had left routinely for work earlier that morning, only for the family to receive the tragic news that his body had been discovered discarded in the parking lot later that afternoon.

At the scene of the investigation, reporters observed a body covered by a sheet lying in the open parking lot while homicide detectives canvassed the surroundings, took measurements, and interviewed witnesses. Officers maintained a heavy presence as they worked to secure any available physical and digital evidence before the area was cleared.

Critical eyewitness testimony came from local resident Veronica Alvear, who described the harrowing sequence of events that prompted the initial emergency call. Alvear stated that her neighbor witnessed the incident firsthand as the suspects threw the victim onto the asphalt before fleeing the complex.

Alvear also noted visible injuries on the man, observing noticeable bruising around his neck area. She recounted to reporters that the physical marks appeared consistent with someone who had been choked or strangled prior to being abandoned on the pavement.

A significant breakthrough in the preliminary inquiry arrived when local television station ABC13 obtained exclusive surveillance camera footage recorded at the complex. The security video provides a precise visual timeline of the moments leading up to the discovery of Chay Tamayac's body.

The surveillance recording reveals that a Toyota vehicle pulled into the apartment parking lot at approximately 2:18 p.m., coming to a stop at the exact location where the body was subsequently recovered. The vehicle remained stationary in that spot for roughly a minute and a half while events unfolded inside and around the car.

According to the footage, an unidentified man exited the vehicle at least once during the brief stop. The surveillance video further shows the vehicle rocking back and forth several times before the driver accelerated and exited the apartment gates, with the entire interaction lasting less than two minutes from arrival to departure.

Investigators with the Houston Police Department Homicide Division have stated that the official cause of death remains undetermined at this stage of the investigation. Police officials emphasized that they have not yet established whether Chay Tamayac was already deceased at the moment he was dropped off at the location or if he succumbed shortly thereafter.

Additionally, detectives have not confirmed the exact time or geographic location where Chay Tamayac sustained his injuries or passed away. The uncertainty surrounding his final hours has made the reconstruction of his movements between his morning departure for work and his afternoon discovery a central focus for homicide detectives.

The gathered family members, including Ramos, remain desperate for clarity regarding the individuals responsible for discarding Chay Tamayac. With no suspect descriptions officially released by law enforcement, the family has joined investigators in hoping that community tips and video evidence will yield crucial leads.

As the Houston Police Department continues its death investigation into the incident on Rampart Street, investigators are analyzing the retrieved surveillance footage and awaiting conclusive findings regarding the official cause of death. Law enforcement personnel continue to review all available evidence in an effort to bring accountability to the case.
