Max Wade Sees Parole Rescinded After Contraband Cellphone Found in San Quentin Cell

Max Wade, the notorious Northern California offender who captured nationwide attention over a decade ago for orchestrating a series of brazen teenage crimes, has seen his granted parole revoked. The decision by state corrections authorities abruptly halts his potential path toward release, keeping the now 32-year-old inmate incarcerated behind bars at San Quentin State Prison.

The reversal occurred following a formal rescission hearing convened earlier this month. The Marin County District Attorney’s Office had fiercely contested Wade’s earlier parole approval, maintaining that the inmate continues to present a significant threat to community safety and should not be released back into the public.

During the proceedings, state officials determined that Wade had breached institutional regulations by maintaining possession of a contraband cellular phone inside the correctional facility. Such items are strictly banned inside California prisons, and the discovery of the unauthorized device provided the legal grounds necessary to invalidate his prior grant of parole.

The hearing marked the culmination of intense pushback from local prosecutors after Wade had successfully secured parole suitability eligibility in July 2024. That earlier determination had positioned him to potentially walk free as early as December 2028. Following the latest ruling to strip that status, California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation records indicate that Wade’s next parole suitability evaluation has now been placed on the calendar for January 5, 2027.

Wade originally vaulted into the media spotlight in the early 2010s when he engaged in a startling succession of increasingly audacious felonies as a high school student. His illicit activities began around age 14 in San Rafael, where he established a sophisticated operation manufacturing and distributing counterfeit identification cards. Wade later claimed this lucrative underground enterprise generated hundreds of thousands of dollars in revenue.

Despite the illicit financial success of his forgery ring, Wade escalated his criminal conduct. In March 2011, he executed a Hollywood-style burglary at the British Motors dealership located in San Francisco. After scaling the building and rappelling through the showroom roof, Wade made off with a high-end, banana-yellow Lamborghini. At the time of the daring heist, Wade was unaware that the luxury sports vehicle belonged to celebrity restaurateur and television personality Guy Fieri.

The brazen car theft swiftly made headlines across the country, but investigators later revealed that the stolen supercar was meant to serve an ulterior personal objective. Detectives determined that Wade had planned to use the high-profile vehicle to impress a local Marin County teenager he was infatuated with, though the young woman repeatedly rebuffed his romantic overtures.

When his advances were rejected, Wade turned to violent retaliation against the young woman’s boyfriend. A few months following the Lamborghini theft, Wade concealed his identity in all-black attire, mounted a motorcycle, and tracked down a pickup truck operated by his romantic rival. In Mill Valley, Wade ambushed the vehicle and discharged a firearm directly into the cab, completely unaware that his crush was also sitting inside. Remarkably, neither occupant sustained physical injuries during the shooting.

Law enforcement officers investigating the targeted drive-by shooting caught a crucial break after discovering surveillance camera footage from a nearby gas station that clearly captured the masked motorcyclist. The clarity of the video allowed investigators to pinpoint the exact model of helmet the shooter was wearing.

Detectives subsequently traced the equipment to a Cycle Gear store in San Francisco. A review of the retailer’s security recordings showed an adolescent male purchasing that specific helmet alongside an assortment of black motorcycle accessories, including riding gloves and a face covering.

Upon viewing the retail footage, the targeted young woman told authorities that the customer closely resembled Wade, noting that he had persistently attempted to woo her. Utilizing this lead, detectives organized a covert sting operation in which the young woman agreed to schedule a date with Wade in the stolen Lamborghini. As Wade arrived and prepared for the encounter, law enforcement officers ambushed him and placed him under arrest.

Wade’s dramatic criminal saga continued while he was being detained at the Marin County Juvenile Hall awaiting his trial. On his eighteenth birthday, an armed extraction attempt unfolded when at least two unidentified accomplices breached the perimeter fence using bolt cutters and attacked his reinforced cell window with a sledgehammer.

The unprecedented escape attempt sent shockwaves through the local juvenile justice administration. County Chief Probation Officer Michael Daly commented on the brazen nature of the attack at the time, remarking that in his 23-year career he had never encountered such an incident. Daly recounted that the unarmed facility staff experienced immense terror as they scrambled to alert the sheriff’s department before the intruders ultimately fled the scene empty-handed.

Following the botched breakout, authorities transferred Wade to an adult detention facility. At age 19, a jury convicted him of multiple severe felony charges, including attempted murder, auto theft, and the unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle, resulting in a life sentence.

During the sentencing phase, the presiding judge expressed astonishment that the two teenagers in the pickup truck had survived the barrage of gunfire. The court highlighted the chilling nature of Wade’s calculated premeditation, observing that he had spent months methodically organizing the violent ambush. With his parole grant now formally rescinded over prison contraband, Wade will remain confined within state prison walls until at least his next board review in 2027.
