Long-Awaited Second Austin H Mart Nears Launch on Burnet Road as Expansion Progresses

Anticipation continues to mount across Central Texas as the second Austin location of the popular Asian supermarket chain H Mart moves closer to its long-expected grand opening. The new store, situated along a prominent commercial corridor in north-central Austin, represents the brand's latest effort to broaden its physical presence in the rapidly growing metropolitan area.

The journey toward opening the new supermarket began three years ago, when the company first revealed its intentions to build a second outpost in 2023. At that time, preliminary project documentation submitted to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation laid the groundwork for a major retail development at 5222 Burnet Road, Suite 600, situated within the 78756 ZIP code.

According to those state regulatory filings, the development involves an investment of approximately $4 million to construct and outfit the commercial space. The finished facility is designed to span 23,125 square feet, providing ample room for the grocer’s signature offerings of fresh produce, specialty ingredients, packaged goods, and prepared foods.

Despite initial excitement following the early filings, the project experienced a series of delays that extended the development timeline over multiple years. Subsequent regulatory records eventually reflected an updated schedule that targeted a late May completion date for the physical construction of the Burnet Road storefront.

However, even with construction milestones passing and preliminary targets established in state records, an official grand opening date has not yet been formally established. Customers and community members eager to walk through the doors have continued to monitor the site closely for any indications of an imminent launch.

Corporate representatives recently addressed the ongoing status of the Burnet Road supermarket in an inquiry response on Wednesday, September 9, 2026. While company officials were unable to provide a definitive launch date, they indicated that further scheduling developments could emerge in the near future.

In their message, store representatives noted that internal updates regarding an exact opening window remain pending. The company stated that it hopes to receive clearer timeline information sometime during September or by October, while simultaneously expressing gratitude to local shoppers for their continued patience and understanding throughout the prolonged process.

The opening of the Burnet Road location carries considerable significance for grocery shoppers across Central Texas, who have frequently voiced strong demand for expanded access to specialized Asian grocers. The new location provides a more centrally situated shopping option for residents living closer to urban Austin neighborhoods.

This development comes nearly ten years after H Mart first established its footprint in the Austin market. The company opened its inaugural location in the capital city back in February 2018, drawing substantial crowds and demonstrating strong local appetite for the supermarket brand.

On a broader scale, the upcoming Burnet Road store represents an important milestone for the grocer’s statewide network in Texas. Once operations officially commence, the location will serve as the eighth H Mart supermarket operating within the Lone Star State.

Currently, Texas hosts seven H Mart locations dispersed across three major metropolitan markets: Austin, Dallas, and Houston. The addition of the Burnet Road store reinforces Central Texas as an integral part of the retailer's broader regional strategy.

While Austin prepares to welcome its second store, neighboring markets in Central and South Texas continue to wait for their own locations. Enthusiasts residing in the San Antonio area, in particular, have persistently expressed interest in seeing the brand expand into the Alamo City market.

Company leadership has previously acknowledged this regional interest, noting that they frequently receive an elevated volume of inquiries and enthusiastic feedback from San Antonio residents. Addressing those requests in late November 2025, officials confirmed that the San Antonio market remains an area the company would love to enter eventually.

However, representatives explained that expanding into new cities involves extensive logistical hurdles, including identifying appropriate real estate and navigating protracted waiting periods. These complex variables frequently impact corporate timelines and prevent immediate expansion into neighboring metropolitan regions.

For now, the grocer has stated that no definitive plans or insights are available regarding a prospective San Antonio venture, leaving regional fans to travel to Austin for their shopping trips. In the meantime, Austin shoppers remain focused on Burnet Road, waiting to see whether autumn will finally deliver an official launch date for the city's second store.
